Can You Eat Expired Tums?

So, if you have a bottle of Tums that has passed its expiration date and are now wondering if eating expired Tums might make you sick.

When it comes to Tums, you’re unlikely to get sick from them. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, some drugs can even keep their usefulness and potency for up to four decades. As a result, you can appreciate this point by remembering that the expiration date on a medicine refers to the period during which the medicine was at its most effective.

When medicine has passed its expiration date, it begins to lose its potency, which means that it gradually loses its effectiveness. In other words, after this time, the manufacturer of the medicine no longer guarantees the effects that the medicine can cause when consumed.

Tums, like all other drugs, do not have to be thrown away after their expiration date.

However, it’s worth noting that some medicines can become poisonous after they’ve passed their expiration date and cause harm to the people who take them, but Tums isn’t one of them.

However, despite all of these promises, we do not recommend that you ingest Tums that have expired. Furthermore, the manufacturer does not recommend that you take Tums after the expiration date has passed.

Tums are available in both chewable tablets and liquid form. 

So, if you’re going to take Tums chewable tablets, make sure you chew them fully before swallowing. On the other hand, it is recommended that you shake the bottle a few times before taking the liquid Tums.
